2 CIVILIANS INJURED IN GRENADE BLAST AT HABAK

SRINAGAR, Jan 8: Two civilians were injured after suspected militants hurled a hand grenade at security forces installation near Habak Crossing on Wednesday.

Sources and witnesses said that the blast which created panic in the area occurred at around 1:30 PM at Habak area of Srinagar leaving two pedestrians with minor splinter injuries.
The injured persons were immediately shifted to hospital and discharged after necessary treatment later.
A senior police official while confirming the blast said two pedestrians suffered minor injuries however no loss of life or major damage was reported.

As soon as the blast occurred, a joint team of police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched search operations to nab attackers. A thorough frisking of vehicles and pedestrians was later carried out by police in the area.
This was second incident in less than a week in Srinagar after suspected militants carried out similar attack at CRPF deployment at Kawdara area in old city past week. A boy among two civilians received splinter injuries in the blast.

Meanwhile, a joint team of Special Operation Group (SOG) and CRPF launched search operation at Abi Guzar Bund area ahead of Republic Day function scheduled to be observed in Srinagar on January 26.
