Three youth were arrested on Sunday in Bandipora after a video went viral showing Pakistan’s national anthem being played before the start of a cricket match.
After the video went viral police arrested three youth and hunt was on for the organisers of the match who arranged the shooting of the video.
Two cricket teams were booked as they had donned Pakistani jerseys. The incident took place at the finals of a local tournament in Arin, Bandipora on Wednesday.
The teams involved were MCC, Gondpora and Dardpora Cricket Club. Police have booked the players of both the teams and few organisers in connection with the incident. Three players from two teams were arrested while rest are still at large, a police official said.
Police summoned the families of detained players and arrested them after a video of the incident went viral on social media networking sites.
The video shows both teams lined up before the start of the match with one in green jersey and the other in white.
The players can be seen bowing their heads as Pakistani national anthem was played in the background over the loudspeakers. A police official said that they have made arrests in this regard and have counselled the village elders.
Talking to Rising Kashmir SHO Bandipora Sayed Gazanaffar said that they have booked the teams under section 13 of the Unlawful Activities Act under FIR number 4/2018.
Meanwhile Police have summoned parents of the players besides the village heads to facilitate the counseling of the young cricketers involved in the incident.
“We are trying to counsel the youth who indulged into the crime,” a police officer told Rising Kashmir.
In 2016, another video went viral showing local cricketers lining up to “salute” Pakistan’s national anthem before the start of a match in Ganderbal district.
Police had arrested some of the boys then but they were let off after assurances from the parents.
