Three Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in an encounter with the police and security forces in the Tral region of Pulwama district, police said on Sunday.

According to police spokesperson, the three militants namely Umar Fayaz Lone, Adil Bashir Mir and Faizan Hameed Bhat (Jaish-e-Mohammed) were killed in the encounter. The forces also recovered arms and ammunitions. The encounter between militants and security forces had started earlier in the morning today.

The police said that the trio was affiliated with the proscribed Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit and the militants fired on a search party, leading to an encounter in Gujar Basti Gulshanpora area of Tral.
Three “most wanted” Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including commander Hamad Khan, were killed in an encounter with security forces on Sunday in Tral in Pulwama district, J&K Police said.

The militants — Umer Fayaz Lone alias “Hamad Khan” of Seer village, Faizan Hamid of Mandoora and Adil Bashir Mir alias “Abu Dujana” of Monghama — were wanted for their complicity in terror crimes, including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities, police said in a statement.
Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the slain militants, the official twitter handle of Kashmir zone police tweeted.
According to police, Lone had a long history of terror crimes since 2016 and was involved in planning and executing several terror attacks in the area.
“He was part of groups responsible for carrying out a series of terror attacks and many other civilian atrocities besides the killing of policeman Haleem Kohli of Gutroo Bangdar Tral and killing of civilian Mehraj Din Zarger of Tral,” a statement issued by police said.
Police said Lone was wanted in 16 cases registered at Tral police station and two cases at Awantipora police station.
Similarly, Adil Bashir Mir and Faizan Hamid also had a history of terror crimes and were also involved in carrying out several terror attacks in the area, police said.
“They were also part of the group involved in the killing of civilian Mehraj Din Zarger near Tral Bus Stand and were responsible for several other terror crimes,” the police statement said.
