5 CIVILIANS INJURED IN MYSTERIOUS BLAST AT HAZRATBAL

Five civilians have been reportedly injured in a mysterious blast apparently hand- grenade outside Kashmir University at Hazratbal area of the city here this afternoon.

Reports said that the blast occurred at around 2 PM outside a local restaurant opposite Sir Syed gate of Kashmir University leaving at least five persons injured. Witnesses said that the blast created total chaos and confusion in the vicinity forcing people including pedestrians and shopkeepers to run for safety.

The injured witnesses said that they were shifted to Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) Hospital at Rainawari for treatment. However, the condition of all the five injured was stated to be stable.
The injured persons have been identified as Mohammad Syed, Abid Manzoor and Gulzar Ahmad. Besides injuries to civilians, some vehicles parked near the site of explosion have also suffered minor damages.
Confirming the incident, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Central Kashmir, RK Birdi said the blast left five persons injured.
“Prima facie it seems to be the grenade blast as nature of the explosion could not be immediately ascertained. A total of five persons have been injured in the blast and all are stable,” DIG CKR said.
