Army man killed, another hurt in Keran gunfight

An army man was killed and another injured in an encounter with militants near Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.
Official sources said army’s 6 RR intercepted a group of militants believed to be infiltrators near Kacchal Post in Keran sector adjacent to Chowkibal forests.
“After being challenged, the militants believed to be 3 to 5 in number opened indiscriminate fire on the army’s ambush party. The fire was returned by the troops, triggering a gunfight,” they said.
Defence spokesman in Srinagar confirmed the gunfight and said two army men sustained injuries in the gunfight.
He said both the injured were evacuated to military hospital Drugmulla, where from they were airlifted to 92 base hospital here in Badamibagh.
Sources said one of the injured army man identified as Sukvinder Singh, later succumbed to injuries in the military hospital. (GNS)
