Army man, militant killed in Keran sector In two days, 4 militants, two troopers die in Kupwara

Srinagar, Nov 22:
An army man and a militant were killed and two troopers injured in a gunfight near Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of border district of Kupwara on Wednesday.
With the fresh casualties, four militants and two army men have been killed in three encounters in border district of Kupwara district.
Srinagar-based army spokesperson, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said army men foiled an infiltration bid of militants in Keran sector of Kupwara today.
He said an army man and a militant were killed and two army personnel injured in the gunfight.
Kalia said search operation was going on.
Sources said at around 7:30 am, troops detected movement of militants along LoC in Keran sector and they were challenged by the troops.
“The militants fired on the army men and the fire was returned by the troops. In the ensuing gunfight, a militant and an army man were killed,” they said adding two army men were also injured and they have been hospitalised.
On Tuesday three Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were killed in an encounter with forces in Magam area of Handwara in Kupwara district while an army man identified as Havaldar Jatinder Singh of 21 Raj Rifles was killed and two army men injured in another gunbattle at Zirhama area of Kupwara on Tuesday.
The massive combing operation in Gujarpati forest area of Zirhama area of Kupwara continued for the second consecutive day today to nab the militants believed to be hiding in the area.
“The operation in the area is going on,” Colonel Kalia said.
However, no fresh contact has been established with militants by forces today.
SSP Kupwara, Shamsher Hussain told Rising Kashmir that no fresh contact was established with militants today.
“The operation is still going on,” he said.
Reports said the group of militants was heading towards the LoC to receive a fresh batch of militants.
