Army sniffer dog dies in militant attack Weapon-snatching bid foiled at Wanpoh

A military sniffer dog died while policemen repulsed a weapon-snatching bid in two separate incidents in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Policemen posted on guard foiled a rifle-snatching bid when two militants tried to approach toward Power Grid Station at Wanpoh area of Kulgam districtFriday afternoon.
However, the assailants wereforced to retreat after the alert sentry fired some gunshots in air, a Police official said.

“The quick response of an alert sentry compelled the assailants to escape from the spot who had come with an intention to snatch a rifle,”he said.
In a separate incident, Army’s sniffer dog was killed as militants hurled a grenade at an Army camp in Kulgam.
The incident occurred at Neehama area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district Friday afternoon.

“Militants lobbed a grenade upon Army’s 34 RR camp at Neehama area and the device exploded inside the camp resulting inthe death of a sniffer dog,” a police official said.
Sources said soon after the attack, government forces went berserk and beat up locals and shopkeepers in Neehama.
The Army personnel also broke windowpanes of several parked vehicles and damaged glass displays and merchandise of several shopkeepers.
In Anantnag town, youth clashed with police after Friday prayers.
Several youth pelted stones at deployments leading to clashes in Reshi Bazar and LalChowk areas of Anantnagmain town.
Police responded by firing tear gas shells and stun grenades to disperse the stone throwing youth.
The clashes went on for sometime.
