BJP leader’s guard flees with rifle

A Special Police Officer (SPO) posted as security guard at the residence of local BJP leader at Rohama in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district fled away with service rifle of another policeman.

A police official told Rising Kashmir that SPO Mohammad WaseemMalla 28, posted with local BJP leader Mohammad Maqbool War at RohamaRafiabad went missing with an AK-47 rifle of Constable Dilshad Ahmad.
Waseem hails from Shutloo village of Rafiabad and went missing on May 21.

Police said that Waseem was guarding residence of Mohammad Maqbool War, state vice president BJP’s KisanMorcha from last one year.
A police statement said that incharge residential guard of War reported that an AK 47 Rifle of PSO Head constable Dilshad (No. 229/SPO) is missing from his trunk and it is suspected that the weapon may have taken away by another SPO Waseem Ahmad (No. 897/SPO), who is missing from last few days.

It said the SPO Waseem was posted at BJP leader’s without personal weapon.
SSP Sopore told Rising Kashmir said that a team of police officers is investigating the matter.
He said an FIR no. 35/2018 has been registered and a manhunt launched to track down the absconding SPO.

When asked whether the deserted cop has joined militant ranks, SSP Sopore said, “We are investigating the matter. Preliminary investigation suggests that he has fled away with a service rifle of another police man.”
