Civilian dies in militant attack in Anantnag 2 SPOs, civilian injured in Kulgam grenade attack

A civilian was killed after suspected militants fired towards CRPF men at Laizbal crossing in Anantnag on Thursday.
“Some militants travelling in a car fired on the CRPF men at Lazibal crossing this afternoon. A civilian, who was travelling in a Tata sumo vehicle, was hit by bullets. He sustained multiple bullet injuries and was evacuated to a District Hospital Anantnag,” a police official said.
He said after being given initial treatment to him in the hospital, the injured person identified as Shakeeb Shabir Shah son of Shabir Ahmed Shah of Kharpora, Shopian, was referred to SKIMS Srinagar for specialised treatment.
“He, however, succumbed to injuries en route at Bijbehara,” the official said.
He said post mortem of the deceased was conducted at Bijbehara hospital and after necessary medico legal formalities were completed, body was handed over to the legal heirs.
The police official said four empty cartridges were recovered from the shoot-out site.
A doctor at District Hospital Anantnag said an injured youth was brought to the hospital with a bullet wound in his chest.
“He was in shock on arrival and resuscitated blood was given to him. He was referred to SKIMS for specialized treatment. However, he died enroute at Bijbehara,” he said.
A police official said police have lodged an FIR and a manhunt has been launched to track down the militants responsible for the incident.
Later, hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers of the deceased civilian at his home town in Shopian.
Meanwhile, militants lobbed a grenade towards a police station in Kulgam district this evening.
The grenade exploded with a big bang, injuring two Special Police Officers (SPOs) and a civilian.
The injured civilian Mohammad Akbar Ganai was rushed to a nearby hospital while the injured SPOs identified as Sajad Ahmad and Azad Ahmad were referred to army hospital in Srinagar.
After the grenade attack, troops cordoned off the area and launched combing and search operation in the area to track down the militants.
