CSB asks CM to secure Shahid’s release

Srinagar, Nov 28:
The Civil Society Budgam (CSB) Tuesday condemned the attack on Syed Shahid Yousuf, son of Hizb chief Syed Salah-ud-Din, inside Tihar jail, New Delhi.

“We strongly condemn the murderous assault on Shahid in Tihar jail by Tamil Nadu Special Force (TSP) and demand an immediate action against the forces involved. In view of threat to his life, Shahid should be shifted to Central Jail, Srinagar. Any untoward happening to him in future won’t be tolerated and the State government and Government of India (GoI) will be held responsible for it,” said a statement issued by CSB.

A CSB spokesman said out of three kids of Shahid, the eldest one, who is 9 years old, is a known case of Down’s syndrome.

“The absence of his father is taking toll on the child’s wellbeing and will hinder his education,” he said.

The spokesman said a 22-member delegation of the civil society Budgam had met Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti last month to convey deep concern over the unwarranted arrest of Shahid.

The delegation had sought CM’s intervention in the matter and appealed her to secure the release of Shahid.

“Despite assurances by CM that no further harassment would be inflicted upon Shahid and his release will be secured, Shahid was beaten to pulp along with other inmates by Tamil Nadu Special Force, causing multiple injuries to him,” the CSB spokesman said.

He said they again appeal CM to intervene and secure Shahid’s release.
