DAY 114: SPONTANEOUS SHUTDOWN CONTINUES TO HIT LIFE IN KASHMIR

Situation continued to remain uncertain in Kashmir valley due to shutdown on 114th consecutive day today even as shops in some areas in Srinagar were partially open and public transport plying partly amidst continuous internet blockade.

Spontaneous shutdown which completed 114 days after revocation of the provisions of Article 370 and downgrading of Jammu and Kashmir continues in restive valley with no respite in internet shutdown since August 5.
Markets were shut in Kashmir by and large even as shops in some areas in Srinagar were open till 1 Pm in the afternoon. A thin movement of public transport was witnessed on roads. Private vehicles however plied normally throughout the day.

Communication system barring partial restoration of mobile phones continued to remain suspended in Kashmir valley on 114th running day. Landline phones were restored nearly a month after the centre took a major decision on Jammu and Kashmir.
Schools, colleges and universities also remained deserted in view of the reluctance of students to join back educational institutions; some private schools however have resumed normal class work since past week.
Although the shutdown has no impact on government and semi government departments, however private establishments across valley continue to remain closed.
