Even if Geelani is made PM, peace can’t return to JK: Rashid ‘Killings will continue till root cause of K-issue is addressed’

Alleging that Deputy Commissioners in the Valley are acting as ‘over ground workers’ of the Station House Officers (SHOs), MLA Langate Er Sheikh Abdul Rashid Wednesday told Legislative Assembly that even if Syed Ali Geelani is made Prime Minister, peace can’t return to the State.

He said the killings would continue till root cause of Kashmir issue was addressed.
“The government was providing perks to the security personnel involved in human rights violations and it is the reason for growing alienation in the valley,” Rashid said.

He alleged that DCs in Kashmir are acting as ‘over ground workers’ of SHOs, who are wreaking havoc.
“The Assembly was losing relevance as people in the Valley perceived the lawmakers as “puppets” resorting to dramatics inside the house,” he said.

The MLA Langate called on PDP-BJP coalition government to form a delegation of legislators for meeting Prime Narendra Modi to impress upon him to resolve the Kashmir issue.
“He (Modi) has a huge mandate and can help in solving the Kashmir issue,” he said.

Rasheed said even if Syed Ali Geelani is made Prime Minister and Syed Salahuddin, Yaseen Malik, Masrat Alam and Qasim Faktoo made his cabinet colleagues, nobody can guarantee peace in the State.
“The killings would continue unless the root cause of the problem is addressed,” he said.

He said it was futile to blame Mehbooba Mufti or anybody else because Government of India (GoI) was adamant to suppress the aspirations and sentiments of masses by treating the Kashmir dispute like a law and order issue.
“The pellets and bullets will continue to be showered on Kashmiris and militants will continue to come from Pakistan till the Kashmir issue is not resolved,” the MLA said.
He said the PDP minister Abdul Haq Khan couldn’t trace his own next door neighbour, who has gone missing from Kakerpatti area of his constituency after being detained by the army.
“The hearts of Kashmiri people also wail for the security personnel killed in the Valley. For a mother of an army man or for the mother of a Fidayeen militant, the person killed is a son rather than being anything else,” Rasheed said.
He appealed BJP leaders to come out with concrete ideas for resolving the Kashmir issue. “If arguments of Kashmiris seeking the right to self-determination do not carry logic, we will agree to BJP’s agenda.”
