Srinagar, May 29: Opposition mainstream political parties on Tuesday said that the contradictory statements from the Union Ministers over dialogue are creating confusion among the people, saying that the Government of India should adopt result-orientated strategy vis-a-vis Kashmir issue.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice president, G N Monga told Kashmir News Service the statements by the Union Ministers indicate that the GOI is not serious over the dialogue and are making contradictory statements in this regard.
“GoI should adopt result orientated strategy vis a vis Kashmir issue. If New Deli is serious to have dialogue then Prime Minister Narendra Modi should also come forward to support the statement of Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh,” he said.
He said that New Delhi has destroyed everything in JK and the situation at present is not conducive for the talks but if they are ready to hold talks then should make a clear cut policy over it and should initiate talks with all the stakeholders.
National Conference (NC) provincial president, Nasir Aslam Wani said that the statement made by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh brought cheer among the people but at the same time the contradictory statement made by another Union Minister Sushma Swaraj have confused the people.
“I believe that the GOI is unnecessarily confusing everybody. Dialogue to resolve the issue is a welcoming step but let the New Delhi stop confusing people and start the dialogue process with all the stakeholders,” he said.
He said that Union Home Minister might have made such statement after thought process and after discussing it with Prime Minister as well.
“We have seen positive signals coming from the various quarters as well as from the PM as he spoke about the reconciliation from the red fort and I think we should hope that the peace gets a chance,” he said.
Senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said that the statement of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh that the Center was ready to talk to every stakeholder, including Hurriyat Conference, “if the separatists come forward for talks”, is a welcome step.
However, he said that there is need on part of the Center to specify the contours of the dialogue so that it doesn’t prove to be one more addition of previous such exercises.
Tarigami said there is a perception that chain of broken promises, repeated interruptions and palpable lack of honesty in the past was the reason for the failure of earlier such initiatives. “The latest offer by the Centre has come after the hard-line policy of New Delhi failed to achieve desired results. Our consistent policy has been always that dialogue is the only way forward,” he said. (KNS)
