Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Thursday condemned the government’s social media gag on employees and described it as “worst form of state terrorism”.
“The gag is aimed to conceal harsh realities and atrocities perpetrated in Jammu and Kashmir,” Geelani said in a statement issued here.
Hitting out at authorities for imposing the arbitrary measures, he alleged that they are trampling basic and fundamental rights and pushing state to the ‘Stone Age’.
“The gag order is unjustified, illogical and unconstitutional. The authorities are hell-bent to create graveyard silence by shielding the criminals,” Geelani said.
He said authorities feel insecure about the world opinion regarding deteriorating situation in Kashmir. “Hence they are strangulating the genuine voices and resorting to harsh measures to conceal use of unproportionate military might against unarmed civilians.”
“Their tall claims and rhetoric for being a great democracy of world is nothing but a hoax. Despite all their repressive and coercive measures, they shall have to bow down their heads before the peoples’ verdict,” Geelani said.
Terming the gag order as “futile exercise”, Hurriyat (G) chairman said, “Imposing ban on social media exposes their rhetoric for battle of ideas”.
