Govt disallows Hurriyat (G) executive meet Bars Mirwaiz from traditional religious sermon

Authorities Thursday disallowed Hurriyat Conference (G) executive council meeting, which was supposed to be chaired by Syed Ali Geelani at the amalgam’s Hyderpora headquarters.

In the morning, police sealed all roads leading to Geelani’s residence, which also serves head office of Hurriyat (G).

“Additional police personnel were deployed outside Geelani’s residence this morning. None was allowed to enter into the office, which also serves as the residence of Geelani,” a Hurriyat (G) officer bearer told Rising Kashmir.
He said they had made all arrangements for the Executive Council meeting but police foiled the crucial meet by curbing and arresting the leaders.

Sources said police also conducted overnight raids and arrested several Hurriyat (G) leaders including its chief spokesperson Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar and other second rung leaders and activists including Mohammad Ashraf Laya, Bilal Sidiqee, Molvi Bashir Irfani and Omer Adil Dar.

Two senior leaders of the amalgam Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and Ghulam Nabi Sumji under kept under house arrest.
Hurriyat (G) sources said that executive meeting was called by Geelani to discuss several issues pertaining to the prevailing situation and the arrest of leaders by National Investigation Agency and Enforcement Directorate.

The authorities also kept Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman and cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his Nageen residence to prevent him from addressing a religious gathering at Datageer Sahab shrine.
“Another gag ! Now on religious preaching. Again put under house arrest to prevent me from addressing decades old traditional majlis-e-waz o tableeg at Dastgeer Sb Khanyar. Greatly pained ! Pray to Almighty Allah to deliver us from this yoke of sufferings and subjugation,” Mirwaiz tweeted.
