Grenade attacks on PDP MLA’s house, CRPF vehicle

Militants on Friday carried out two grenade attacks in Anantnag and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir targeting residence of ruling PDP MLA and CRPF vehicle injuring six persons including five paramilitary personnel.
A police official said militants lobbed a grenade towards the residence of PDP MLA from Tral Mushtaq Shah at Tral in Pulwama today.
The grenade exploded in the lawn of the house. However, none was injured in the explosion.
The PDP MLA was not present in the house at the time of the grenade attack.
Meanwhile, militants hurled a grenade towards CRPF vehicle at Khanbal area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district this afternoon.
Four CRPF men, a policeman and a civilian were injured in the grenade blast.
The injured were referred to District hospital Anantnag, where they are undergoing treatment.
After the grenade attack, police, CRPF and army men launched searches in the area to nab the attackers.
The injured CRPF men were identified as Ravinder Singh son of Dalip Singh, Mohammad Siraj son of Gulsher Khan, Veer Singh son of Afsar Singh and Binod Kumar while the injured cop was identified as Abdul Majeed son of Mohammad Ramzan of Larkipora Anantnag and civilian was identified as Abdul Rasheed son of Ghulam Mohammad of Tral, Pulwama.
There has been a spate in grenade and firing incidents across south Kashmir during Ramadan, even as the government has announced unilateral ceasefire and halted anti-militancy operations in the valley.
Meanwhile, Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility of the attacks.
“Jaish militants attacked CRPF vehicle near Eidgah crossing injuring several troopers,” a Jaish spokesman said.
He said militants also attacked CRPF at Khanabal, Anantnag critically injuring four CRPF men and a policeman.
