In LA, MLAs demand release of photojournalist Kamran Yousuf

Peoples Conference (PC) legislator from Kupwara Advocate Bashir Ahmad Dar and CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami Friday demanded release of Kashmiri photo journalist Kamran Yousuf, who is in NIA custody.

Speaking on the motion of grants on Home and General Administration Department, PC MLA Bashir Ahmad Dar said Kamran should be released on human grounds.
“The photojournalist has no case in Kashmir. I know the case is with NIA. I am sure Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will take up the matter with New Delhi and seek his release,” he said.
Dar said the young photojournalist should be given a chance to pursue his career.
“He is young and deserves to be given a chance in a similar way like amnesty was granted to first time stone pelters,” he said.
MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami also sought release of photojournalist Kamran Yousuf and another boy from Qoimoh, Kulgam.
“On a mere pretext of stone pelting, Yousuf has been arrested and now is even denied the bail, which doesn’t justify the process at all. You have announced amnesty for young offenders. He also deserves that,” he said.
Tarigami also questioned the role of NIA in Kashmir citing the autonomous character of J&K in Indian Union.
Photojournalist Yousuf was summoned by Police Station Pulwama on September 4 last year and handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA) the next day on charges of stone pelting.
