JRL calls for boycott of panchayat polls

JRL Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik on Thursday appealed people to boycott the upcoming panchayat polls in the State.

In a joint statement, the three leaders said the boycott of these elections would deliver a message that “Kashmiris want freedom from India and that they will accept nothing less than freedom and right to self determination”.
“India repeatedly stages this election drama to hoodwink international community, and pro-India parties and their leaders try to lure people in the name of roads, unemployment and other sugar-coated things,” the leaders said.
They said soon after this election drama is over, they declare this vote as a “vote for India and use this farce to camouflage atrocities and human rights abuses in Kashmir”.

“These elections are meant to harm the national interests of Kashmiri people. Any sort of election under Indian system, be it for assembly, parliament, municipal, committee or Panchayat is meant only to harm the national interests of Kashmiris. We cannot vote and hence strengthen the hands of thee tyrants,” they alleged.
“How can we vote for those rulers and their parties, who are hell bent on installing RSS-fascism in J&K, who want to change the demography of this land, who have killed thousands of men and women and , who have snatched eyesight of thousands by pellets and caged thousands of young and old,” they said.

The separatist leaders claimed that elections and institutions formed by these elections are detrimental to the interests of Kashmiris. “And as a living nation we all should keep away from this farce and boycott these elections in totality.”
“We appeal people of Kashmir to boycott panchayat election drama announced by the rulers,” they said.
The government on Monday said it would hold panchayat elections from February 15 next year.
