JRL calls shutdown on Burhan’s death anniversary

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) Wednesday called for complete shutdown on July 8 to mark the death anniversary of Hizb commander Burhan Wani.
In a joint statement, JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik called upon religious clerics to hold Fateh Khawani on July 6.
“On July complete shutdown would be observed on death anniversary of Burhwan. JRL will hold public meeting in Tral,” they said.
Burhan was killed in an encounter with forces in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on July 8, 2016.
The leaders denounced Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his recent statement that Kashmir was not an issue of development or administration, nor it can be resolved through military might.
“Kashmir dispute is a long-standing issue in international forums and world community has agreed to decide its political destiny through right to self-determination,” they said.
The leaders said Kashmir is not an issue of mere development. “It is issue related to 15 million people and their right to self-determination”.
“India is suffering from power of arrogance. Since last seven decades, India is exploiting and looting our resources. Indian government is deliberately ignoring the hard realities about J&K,” they said.
The leaders said since 1947, over six lakh people have been mercilessly killed and thousands of women molested in the state while continuing their fight for right to self-determination.
They suggested Indian leadership to learn from annals of history.
The leaders blaming Indian authorities for turmoil, disturbance and other issues related economy and development. “The Indian military presence has pushed state to stone age like situation.”
They said J&K has been blessed with rich resources, forests minerals. “However, these resources were looted and plundered by Indian government and its forces”.
