A militant was killed in an encounter with ensued after contact was reestablished with ultras on Wednesday in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where an Army soldier and an SOG jawan died in exchange of fire on Tuesday.
With the first light in the morning security forces resumed search operation which was halted last night due to darkness at a village in Khrew in Pulwama.
“A militant was killed on Wednesday in exchange of fire with security forces after contact was reestablished with ultras in Khrew, where a search operation was launched on Tuesday morning,” a police official told media-persons.
He said after killing two security personnel, including a SOG jawan and Army soldier, in the exchange of fire on Tuesday, the militants managed to escape from the spot. However, he said the search operation was launched.
He said the Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was stopped late last night due to darkness. However, additional security forces were deployed despite sub zero temperature to prevent militants to escape, they said.
Security forces used flash lights and drones to keep a close watch in the area, he said.
With the first light this morning security forces resumed search operation in the area, including nearby forest, he said.
Giving details about the operation, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said following specific information about presence of two militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF at Khrew on Tuesday.
He said an encounter ensued when security forces were cordoning off the area. “An SPO Shahbaz Ahmad and an Army soldier were killed in the exchange of fire,” he said.
He said the operation in Khrew was resumed early this morning after it was suspended last light due to darkness.
