Family members of a youth, Umar Fayaz from Chattabal, who was critically injured in a shootout at Lawaypora area on Srinagar-Baramullah highway today held protest, demanding impartial probe to ascertain his involvement in militancy as claimed by police.
Shouting slogans “release Umar, do justice with innocent” scores of family members and relatives of Umar Fayaz assembled at Press Enclave and held protest to seek impartial probe into what they termed “false allegations” leveled by the police against their son.
They said that Umar was at his father’s shop when a stray bullet pierced his chest leaving him critically injured. They said the police before tagging him as a militant would check whether he was really at shootout site or not.
“There is some confusion for sure as we know police cannot implicate any innocent in false case. We want the police to investigate whether he is really a militant or a civilian. We are ready to give in written that we shall be held responsible if his involvement in any activity is established,” said a relative of Umer.
Two militants and a CRPF personnel were killed during a shootout at Lawaypora area on the city outskirts earlier this week. Umer Fayaz, as per police, was a militant and was captured alive after being injured in shootout.
He said that the injured youth who runs a poultry shop was very much present at his father’s shop when the highway incident took place. He also appealed the police to check all CCTV footages whether Umer had accompanied the two militants who were killed in the shootout.
“We request IG Kashmir and SSP Srinagar to release Umer. He is innocent and is not affiliated with any outfit. Kindly do justice with his ailing parents who are in a state of shock ever since their son was branded as militant,” he added.
