Militants attack troops near Awantipora Air Force Station

Militants on Tuesday attacked troops near Air Force Station at Malangpora, Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
SSP Pulwama, Mohammad Aslam Chaudhry told Rising Kashmir that a party of forces from Air Force station, which was returning from a water pump station, was attacked by militants about 100 meters away from the Air Force station in Malangpora, Awnatipora area.
He said the fire was returned by the troops, triggering a brief encounter.
“There was no loss of life or injuries on either side,” SSP said.
He also after the shoot-out troops laid siege around the area to conduct searches.
Defence spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said 2-3 militants fired and lobbed grenade towards the Air Force Water Pump House at Malangpora outside Air Force Station at around 5.30 pm.
He said the fire was effectively retaliated by alert sentries.
“The militants fled away from the spot after sentries firing. There is no loss of life or damage to property during the exchange of fire,” Kalia said.
After the shootout, police, CRPF and army men launched a combing a combing and search operation in the area to track down the militants responsible for the attack.
The combing operation was going on when reports last poured in.
