A Personal Security Officer (PSO) of senior National Conference leader and former legislator was killed and other injured in militant attack on his vehicle near Murran village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday. Militants also snatched two rifles from the policemen.
A police official said senior NC leader and former MLA Rajpora, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Mir was on way to his native Murran village from Srinagar when some militants intercepted his vehicle near Shah-i- Hamadan Public School and fired on it from close range.
“Though Mir escaped unhurt, two of his Personnel Security Officers (PSOs) were injured in the militant attack,” he said.
The injured policemen were shifted to district hospital Pulwama, where doctors declared critically injured cop Mudasir Ahmad as brought dead.
Another injured policeman identified as Nasir Ahmad is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
SSP Pulwama, Mohammad Aslam Chaudhary told Rising Kashmir that militants fired on Mir’s vehicle when he was barely half a kilometre from his house in Murran.
“In the attack two of his PSOs were injured and one of them succumbed later,” he said.
The SSP said militants also fled away with two weapons of the policemen.
Police has registered a case and started investigation.
Various social media networks claimed that militants have released pictures of two weapons snatched in today’s attack.
This is second attack on the NC leader.
Earlier, one of his PSO, Riyaz Ahmad was killed when militants attacked his vehicle in Monghama village of Pulwama on May 25, 2016.
Mir represented Rajpora constituency in Assembly from 1996 to 2002. However, he lost the 2002 polls to Syed Bashir and in subsequent election was denied ticket by NC leadership. He contested the elections as an independent but remained unsuccessful.
In 2014, he again contested election on NC ticket and was defeated by PDP’s Haseeb Drabu.
