Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Monday while lauding the role of Kashmiri youth in freedom movement said that “sacrifices offered by the youth have given a new direction to on-going moment in Kashmir.” He invited youth for shouldering responsibilities asking them to come forward.
Mirwaiz stated this while addressing the youth convention of Awami Action Committee(AAC) at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal in old city here. According to a statement issued here, a delegate session of the AAC Youth Wing was chaired by AAC chief Mirwaiz where in a large number of youth participated.
“Since 1931 people are engaged in a political struggle for the right to decide their political destiny. First under the leadership of Mohajir-e-Millat, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Yousuf Shah and the banner of Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference, who was exiled to Pakistan in 1947 and then under the dynamic leadership of Shaheed-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, who carried it forward since the Moi-e-Muqadas agitation of 1962 by launching the J&K till his martyrdom in 1990,” Mirwaiz said.
“We are challenged from all sides be it they through machinations of changing our demographic composition by settling outsiders in the name of sainiks, WP refugees and others or through exploiting our natural resources of water or through constantly eroding article 370,” he said.
“All this is done through mainstream people who unfortunately are from us,” he said.
Mirwaiz said a “concerted effort is also on at undermining our institutions and centers of identity foremost among them being the central Jamia Masjid which has remained a politico religious centre for Kashmir for centuries highlighting people’s aspirations.”
“In such a challenging political situation and under such odds, the responsibility of AAC, being one of the founders of the people’s resistance struggle, and AAC youth was all the more pressing and the youngsters need to come forward to shoulder these responsibilities and make the organisation stronger at all levels by their selfless participation and support,” he said.
He appealed people in general and youth in particular to make all the programmes of the unified resistance leadership successful.
AAC Youth leader Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, Advocate Nazir Ahmed Ronga, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, and S U Rehman, welcomed and thanked the delegates and others who attended the programme.
