Shepherd killed in blast near Army firing range in Awantipora

A shepherd was killed in an explosion near an army firing range in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.
SP Awantipora Mohammad Zahid Malik told Rising Kashmir that a shepherd identified as Ashiq Hussein Chopan son of Ghulam Mohammad Chopanof Gutroo,Tral died in an explosion at the back side of Victor force station in Awantipora today.
He said police retrieved body from the spot and handed it over to heirs for last rites after completing all legal formalities.
Malik said police has taken cognizance of the incident and launched investigation to ascertain cause of explosion.
Another police official said some army men were practicing in field firing range in Awantipora when the incident took place.
He said a grenadeexploded after hitting the line and shepherd received abdomen injury and died on spot.
