SHRC seeks report over killing of Kupwara driver

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Wednesday directed Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara to file a detailed report in connection with the recent killing of a driver in the frontier district.
The driver Asif Iqbal had died after receiving bullet in the ambush laid by Army. The directions came in the petition which was filed by Chairman of International Forum of Justice (IFJ), Ahsan Untoo.
The petitioner had sought directions to DC and SSP Kupwara to file a detailed report before the next date of hearing in February. The state government has already ordered a probe into the matter.
Over the killing of a civilian, Asif Iqbal of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district who was killed in forces firing, several opposition political parties strongly condemned the killing.
The deceased Iqbal was a driver and was killed after “army opened fire during an ambush” in Kralpora area of Kupwara on Sunday.
As per the reports the local residents and family members had stated that Iqbal was shot at by the army just a few yards from his house as he was about to start the vehicle to ferry a patient to a hospital. They said that the army had laid an ambush at Thandipora village after receiving inputs about the movement of militants.
