A Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed and another critically injured in twin militant attacks in south Kashmir on Saturday.
SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Chaudhary told Rising Kashmir that SPO Mohammad Ashraf Mir son of Ghulam Qadir Mir of Maspuna village was fired upon by militants from close range near near Dalipora locality of Pulwama at around 4.30 pm.

r sustained grievous injuries and was evacuated to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
Eyewitnesses said at around 4.30 pm, they heard some sound near Dalipora area.
“SPO Ashraf was seen walking from Murran chowk towards Dalipora. He had come to Pulwama to offer condolences to his relatives on passing of one of their family member,” they said.
Eyewitnesses said the SPO was seen running towards an alley as if he was threatened by someone and after some time they heard few gunshots.
A shopkeeper said few minutes later they saw some people carrying a person on their back and crying that he has been hit by bullets.
They shifted him to district hospital Pulwama.
Doctors at District Hospital Pulwama said Mir had sustained bullet wounds in chest, abdomen and leg.
“He had succumbed while being shifted to hospital and was brought dead,” doctors at DH Pulwama said.
Later, a wreath laying ceremony was held at District Police Lines Pulwama at Drussu, where the police officials paid tributes to the slain SPO.
Ashraf is survived by three children.
“Ashraf left Maspuna village around 12 years ago and was presently residing at Chanapora area in Srinagar,” the locals said.

He said police have registered a case and started investigation.
Earlier, in the day, militants fired towards SPO Turag Singh in Khanbal area of Anatnang district.
The SPO sustained critical bullet injuries and was shifted to District hospital Anantnag for treatment. The doctors later referred him to army’s 92 base hospital at Badamibagh, Srinagar.
