Srinagar youth’s gun-wielding picture surfaces on social media

Srinagar, Feb 2: A picture of Srinagar youth wielding gun and holding a copy of Holy Quran surfaced on social media on Saturday.
In the picture, the youth identified as Danish Haneef son of Mohammad Haneef alias Abu Duhjhana of Natipora Srinagar.
According to the picture, Danish has joined militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Danish, 22, went missing soon after he left home for prayers in a mosque on December 30.
After his picture surfaced on the social media, his family made a passionate appeal to him to return home.
“Our whole family is worried. The backbone of every family member is broken and all are crying. I appeal my son to return home as soon as possible,” Danish’s mother says in a video, circulated on social media.
The picture could not be verified independently.
However, police is verifying its authenticity.
“We are ascertaining veracity of the photograph,” said a senior police officer.
In October last year, Ehtisham Bilal, 19, of Khanyar area of the city had joined militant ranks. However, he returned home and was being counselled.
Ehtisham, who was studying Bachelors in Medical Imaging Technology (BIMT) in Sharda University, Noida, had left studies and had announced his joining of ISJK in a six-minute audio clip, which was a circulated on social media on November 2.
In December 2018, he returned home after his family made repeated appeals and prayed at shrines for his return.
Soon after his return, he was arrested by police and questioned as to what prompted him to join militancy.
A police officer said he was being counselled to continue his studies.
