Student injured in forces’ firing at Nadihal

An 11th standard student was injured when BSF men fired on a group of protesting youth on Baramulla-Handwara highway near Nadihal area of Baramulla district on Monday.
Locals told Rising Kashmir that Ubaid Manzoor Lone, 22, son of Mohammad Manzoor Lone of Nadihal was injured when forces fired on a group of youth near Nadihal Baramulla.
They said a cavalcade of forces was passing through the area when protesting youth hurled stones on them, leading to clashes.
Police said youth were hurling stones and tried to block the vehicular movement on Baramulla-Handwara in view of call for complete shutdown called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against civilian killings in forces firing.
“The youth had blocked road and hurling stones on vehicles. A BSF cavalcade of 149 bn coming from Kupwara to Baramulla passed through the area and came under stone pelting from the protesting youth. The BSF personnel fired two rounds to disperse the youth in which a boy received a bullet in thigh,” SHO Baramulla Khalid Fayaz told Rising Kashmir.
He said a youth received minor injury and was referred to Srinagar hospital.
The SHO said the condition of injured youth is stable.
The injured boy was shifted to District Hospital Baramulla, where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital for specialised treatment.
Medical Superintendent District Hospital Baramulla Dr Masood said the boy received a firearm injury in thigh and was shifted to Srinagar hospital.
“The boy is out of danger and shifted to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment,” he said.
A police official said an FIR 103/18 US 307,336,144RPC, Baramulla PS has been registered and further investigation taken up.
Refuting news about CRPF being involved in the incident, DIG CRPF North Range Rakesh Kumar Yadav said BSF cavalcade passing through the area fired on the youth.
“CRPF wasn’t deployed in the area and we have nothing to do with this incident as claimed in some media reports. It was a BSF cavalcade that came under heavy stone pelting near Nadihal. They fired few rounds in self-defence in which a youth was injured,” he said.
