Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram takes a dig at the BJP-led central government over the resignation of IAS officer Shah Faesal, saying that the world will take note of “his cry of anguish and defiance.”
In a series of tweets, the former Home and Finance Minister claimed that what Faesal, the first Kashmiri IAS topper, had said was an indictment of the Narendra Modi-led government. “Though sad, I salute Mr Shah Faesal IAS (now resigned). Every word of his statement is true and is an indictment of the BJP government. The world will take note of his cry of anguish and defiance,” he said.
Chidambaram said that not long ago, “legendary police officer” Julio Ribeiro, former DGP of Punjab and former Commissioner of Mumbai Police, had said the same thing, but there was “not a word of reassurance from the rulers.”
“Such statements from our fellow citizens must make us hang our heads in regret and shame,” he said. On the Modi government, Ribeiro had said the country needed inclusive development and not just for some sections.
He had also said he “felt threatened, not wanted, reduced to a stranger in his own country” and that he never felt that he belonged to a different religion. Faesal had resigned to ‘protest the unabated killings in Kashmir and absence of any credible political initiative from Union Government.’ He had added, “I have decided to resign from IAS. Kashmiri lives matter. I will be addressing a press-conference on Friday.”
Faesal’s longer statement, posted on Facebook, had read, “To protest against the unabated killings in Kashmir, and lack of any sincere reach-out from the Union Government; the marginalization and invisiblization of around 200 million Indian Muslims at the hands of Hindutva forces reducing them to second-class citizens; insidious attacks on the special identity of the J&K State and growing culture of intolerance and hate in the mainland India in the name of hypernationalism, I have decided to resign from Indian Administrative Service.” (PTK)
Shah Faesal must support right to self-determination: Er. Rasheed
SRINAGAR: Reiterating that everyone should respect the decision of IAS topper Shah Faesal AIP president Er. Rasheed has appealed Shah Faesal not to let people down and prove his words.
While addressing a press conference in Srinagar today, Er. Rasheed said Shah Faesal’s resignation from the services has proved that sincere people can’t serve under corrupt political dispensation and is authentication of the fact that Kashmiris are being denied their rights and are facing worst state Terrorism.
Er. Rasheed said “what so ever reasons Shah Faesal has cited for his resignation, it yet again reveals and confirms that New Delhi is treating J&K as a colony and the Kashmiri officers especially hailing from majority community are facing discrimination and alienation within the system, Otherwise an IAS topper would never have been compelled to leave the job as he could have served more as a top class bureaucrats than as politician. Shah Faesal is absolute right in saying that Kashmiris get killed, tortured, humiliated and are being deprived of their fundamental rights. It is for Shah Faesal to decide how he can achieve his goal or fight for the rights of Kashmiris.”
Er. Rasheed said that while Shah Faesal’s decision deserves respect, likeminded people must sincerely offer him cooperation and he should in return not disappoint those who are hoping high on him. He said “Since Shah Faesal has condemned atrocities on Kashmiris and has talked about legitimate rights of his people, as such Shah Faesal knows better than anyone that people are seeking resolution to Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions, end to nepotism, corruption, VIP culture, miss governance and dynasty rule, hence he must not ignore the popular sentiment and sacrifices of masses.”
Er. Rasheed said that while taking next step is Shah Faesal’s own choice but his joining any party not with good track record will lead to confusions and the intentions of Shah Faesal will come under question mark.
Er. Rasheed said that his party will like to offer Shah Faesal to join AIP or even if he floats his own party or contests parliamentary elections as an independent candidate we will love to join hands with him, subject to the condition he will speak louder and clear with sincerity about sacrifices and sentiments of masses and will not collaborate with those who don’t believe in giving right to self-determination to Kashmiris.
Er. Rasheed reiterated that his party is ready to merge or follow any party and work with any individual who sincerely believes in fighting an everlasting resolution to Kashmir dispute in its historic perspective. (PTK)
