A youth was injured in clashes at Brethipora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday, after army opened fire on protesters here. He was identified as Adil Ahmad Wagay of Nadpora village of Shopian district and was shifted to district hospital Pulwama where doctors provided him treatment.
“He has received a bullet injury on his left leg but his condition is stable”, said a doctor.
According to locals as soon as the army men appeared in the village, they started dispersing the youth who then pelted stones on them. “Some army personnel, in civvies were patrolling through the village when some youth threw stones towards them with an apprehension that they had converged in the village to lay siege. The forces retaliated by firing tear gas shells and bullets in which a youth received bullet injury on left leg”, said a local.
Officials in district hospital Pulwama further added that they are assessing the victim to ascertain the nature of injury.
“The army men, some of whom were dressed in Pheran, started throwing stones on the youth by using hand held slingshots triggering clashes in the area”, accused locals.
