The Kashmiri lockdown has devastated the local economy. Since Article 370 was revoked the combined loss has reached $5.3 billion. Local leaders are deprived of their rights to speak out against the harsh treatment by the Indian government.
Millions of people have been laid off and displaced. The unemployment rate has skyrocketed to 20 percent. All the while the COVID-19 emergency has further isolated groups that are suffering from the loss of their livelihoods.
The main industries of the region of silk production, carpet manufacturing, apple harvesting, and the development of handicrafts have all been severely impacted.
The government has also blocked 4G cellular service in an attempt to prevent the atrocities from being known to the world. That action has cost the region over $4.2 billion.
