Ghulam Mir, MD, FACG

Dr. Ghulam Nabi Mir is an Akron, OH based Gastroenterologist and President of the World Kashmir Awareness Forum, an organization focused on documenting the latest developments in Kashmir and advocating for Kashmiris in the region and throughout the diaspora. Born and raised in Thandipora, Kashmir, Dr. Mir’s activism began at age 16, as the organizer of the Sopore chapter of the Kashmiri Students and Youth League.

He immigrated to the United States in 1974, Dr. Mir was the founding Chairman of the Founders Committee for the Islamic Society of North America. He is also the founding co-chair of the Northeast Ohio Jewish-Muslim Dialogue alongside Temple Israel, and Secretary General and President of the London-based World Kashmir Freedom Movement.

During his medical career, Dr. Mir served as the Chief of Gastroenterology, Chief of Medicine, Chief of Staff, member of the board of trustees, and co-chairman of the physician leadership group at Barberton Citizens Hospital in northeastern Ohio. He retired from medical practice in 2019 to advocate for the Kashmir cause. The majority of his extended family resides in Kashmir, but due to his outspoken activism, Indian authorities have prevented him from returning to the region for over 30 years.

Khalid J. Qazi, MD, MACP

Prof. Khalid J. Qazi is a Buffalo, NY Internist, professor, and board member of the World Kashmir Awareness Forum.

Prof. Qazi has served as Chairman of the town of Amherst’s Community Diversity Commission and President of the Muslim Public Affairs Council of Western New York. He is a co-founder of the Annual Understanding Islam Series, The Tent of Abraham, and a member of the Board of Governors for the Buffalo Network of Religious Communities.

During his medical career, Dr. Qazi served as a Professor of Clinical Medicine and Program Director for the University of Buffalo Internal Medicine, President of the Buffalo Catholic Health System Medical Staff, and Program Director for Internal Medicine at Sisters of Charity Hospital.

Prof. Qazi has earned the following awards and recognitions:

Outstanding ACGME Accreditation Award from the University of Buffalo
The U.S. Attorney General’s Citizen Volunteer Service Award
Lifetime Achievement Award from the Muslim Public Affairs Council of Western New York.

The Brotherhood/Sisterhood Award of the National Conference of Christians and Jews
The Leadership Buffalo Diversity Award
Gaudete Medal from St. Bonaventure University
Buffalo News 2001 Outstanding Citizen of Western New York.

Imtiaz A. Khan, PhD

Dr. Imtiaz A. Khan is a Washington, DC based microbiologist, professor, and board member of the World Kashmir Awareness Forum.

In his professional career, Dr. Khan has published nearly 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts in addition to numerous reviews and book chapters in the field of microbial immunology. Dr. Khan is Specialty Chief Editor of the academic journal Frontiers of Immunology and serves on multiple editorial boards of high-impact immunology journals.

Dr. Khan’s research has been awarded multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to pursue research in Toxoplasma gondii immunology.

As an activist, Dr. Khan has spoken at numerous national events, embassies, consulates, and
state capitals in support of self-determination for Kashmir. Dr. Khan has been part of several
international delegations abroad to generate awareness for the conflict in Kashmir. He has met with world leaders such as PM Imran Khan and other major political figures in Pakistan and Kashmir to solicit support for the cause. He served on the board of the Kashmir American Council and became its president in 2014.
