Gunfight breaks out in Bandipora forests

A gunfight broke out between militants and government forces at Shokbaba area of Sumlar in North Kashmir’s Bandipora.

Official sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a Joint team of forces launched a cordon and search operation after “specific inputs” about presence of militants in the forest area of Shokbaba.

“As the government forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight . Exchange of fire is going on, ” they said.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police in a tweet also confirmed that gunfight has started at Shokbaba forest, Sumlar area of Bandipora. “Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow, ” it said—(KNO)

Meanwhile Anantnag police responded to Hassan’s tweet and said, “Cognisance taken. Circumstances that led to this being looked into.During rush evening hours,a loaded truck got stuck due to mechanical fault on Sangam bridge leading to heavy traffic jamming.Been working hard to clear it.Request all to cooperate with police & avoid confrontation.”
