High alert in Srinagar, security increased after spurt in civilian killings
Following several civilian killings in the last three days, Srinagar city has been put on high alert, while security has been beefed up across the city, sources said on Thursday.
Sources told a local news agency, Kashmir News Service (KNS) that security has been beefed up and check points have been installed at several locations across the city following civilian killings including that of famous chemist ML Bindroo on Tuesday evening.
They said that the police and government forces on Thursday carried out frisking at major locations across the city as the city has been put on high alert following sudden spurt in civilian killings.
Sources also said that VIPs have been also asked to restrict their movement in view of the security situation arising out of the recent killings.
They said that the security has also been beefed up in view of the visit of Union Home Minister, Amit Shah to Jammu and Kashmir later this month.
Notably, five civilians have been killed in the last three days of which four have been killed in Srinagar alone including famous chemist ML Bindroo and non-local vendor on Tuesday evening two teachers today morning.
A civilian was also shot dead in Shahgund area of Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday evening.
Meanwhile, the civilian killings have been condemned by political leaders across the party lines including the Hurriyat leaders. (KNS)
