“Instead of making an example out of a Union minister’s son accused of killing four farmers, central agencies are after a 23-year-old simply because his surname happens to be Khan. Travesty of justice that Muslims are targeted to satiate the sadistic wishes of BJP’s core vote bank,” Mufti tweeted.

After this, a Delhi-based lawyer filed a complaint saying that Mufti should be charged under different sections of the Indian Penal Code for “attempting to create enmity between communities.” According to the complaint, her comment was a “inciting statement which intends to create animosity and unrest among communities.”

Mufti had also slammed the BJP-led central government for targeting Aryan Khan rather than Union Minister of State Ajay Misra’s son, Ashish, who is accused of mowing down farmers in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Khan on 2 October after he was detained during a narcotics raid onboard a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai. Despite the fact that he did not have any narcotics on him, his bail request was refused in court. He is now incarcerated at Arthur Road prison until his next bail hearing on 13 October.
